Beer isn’t exactly synonymous with health food. However, a craft beer line is looking to change that. Dr. Jekyll’s fresh line of organic craft beers features superfoods and has teamed with a biotech firm to develop a process to brew the likes of turmeric, acai berry, ginger, green tea, algal oil, flaxseed oil, raspberry ketone and other healthful nutrients into its vegan beers.
Beer Belly is a lower-calorie Kölsch that is intended not to bust your gut. Superfood ingredients are acai, maqui berry, raspberry ketone, grapefruit fiber, green tea and green coffee bean that contain antioxidants and bioactive compounds that are shown to help reduce free radicals, boost energy and burn calories. Bio Beer is an IPA with acai berry, acerola berry, turmeric, maitake mushroom, garlic, green tea, clove and ginger oil that help boost the body’s immune system and senses. Beer Attack is handcrafted Irish-style red ale with heart-healthy ingredients like maqui berry, hawthorn berry, cinnamon oil, flaxseed oil, algal oil and garlic.
Bonus: a portion of all proceeds from Dr. Jekyll’s go to nonprofits, including Wounded Warriors Project, American Cancer Society and American Heart Association.
Dr. Jekyll’s Craft Beer sold at Whole Foods, Cost Plus World Markets, and various Arizona restaurants, pubs and specialty retailers.
