Name: Julie Burch

Age: 39

Title: Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy Practitioner (Movement Therapies and Education Coordinator)

Married/Single: Married

Kids: 2 little beautiful ladies, 16 months and 3

Live: Scottsdale

I was born…

in Omaha, Nebraska

My favorite thing about Arizona…

besides the weather?  The plethora of fun things to do inside, outside, and within a day’s drive on any given day of the year!

I’m listening to…

Toddler Radio on Pandora or anything I can dance to.

My family…

is amazing, spontaneous, friendly, funny, joyful, adventurous, card-game obsessed and whole-heartedly warm and loving.  I am so very grateful!

If I could have dinner with anyone it would be…

Alanis Morsette.  She seems to know exactly the path my life is taking, possibly because we nearly share the same birthday; her songs have supported my journey in a very profound way and I would love to give her a giant squeeze and say THANK YOU!

One thing I cannot live without…

a good book!

When I was younger, I wanted to be…

a water fountain designer.  My Dad would take me to see the fountains and I was in awe at the mechanics of making water dance.  I still want to be a water fountain designer and a Broadway star.

I’m inspired by…

the peace I see in my clients faces and body after a session, art, dance, music, laughter and compassion.

The one person who motivates me is…

my daughters motivate me the most. I try to lead through my actions and be the best me possible.

If I could change anything in the world, it would be…

the lives of under or unloved children.  Every child deserves an overabundance of hugs, kisses, smiles, laughter, play, adventure, security and safety.

The perfect day would be…

yoga at sunrise followed by coffee and a book on the back porch, on to an outdoor day of fun with my family.

My first job…

was at a video store in the mall. One of my co-workers took money from the till every time I worked and I got fired in 3 months.  Wonder how she made extra money after I left?

My favorite escape…

is on the water on an apparatus of some sort – paddle board, sailboat, kayak, 99 Cent store raft. . .

My life…

is very full and I am very thankful.  I get to facilitate healing for my work, enjoy my children and family, and take care of myself with activities I love.

I’m currently…

working on spreading the word about yoga therapy and the unique philosophy that guides treatment at Center for Pain and Supportive Care.

Always…

smile when you are talking on the phone or making eye contact with a stranger.

Never…

stop evolving. I’ve always known through every obstacle and trial in my life that I would end up on higher ground; somehow the difficulty was serving a purpose greater than I could understand at the time.  I haven’t been wrong yet!

Favorite quote…

“Don’t move the way fear makes you move.  Move the way love makes you move. Move the way joy makes you move.”  Soho

Biggest dream…

to work with adolescent girls, using Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy as way to empower them and help them learn to tune in to their authentic self in difficult situations.  The teenage years are riddled with confidence killers for girls, from bullies, to boys, to air brushed magazine covers, to hormones and peer pressures.  I have a knack for working with teenagers and find such reward in facilitating an insight into themselves and permission to be proud of who they are.

My pet peeve(s)…

litter and wet towels hanging on the door to dry.
