Where to Dine: Waste Management Phoenix Open

The Waste Management Phoenix Open kicks off Jan. 29, and the Valley is excited to welcome back “The Greatest and Greenest Show on Grass.” But once you’ve had your fill of beer, where should you go for great eats and sweet deals? Perhaps laidback outdoor dining? Here are some local favorites all within five miles of TPC Scottsdale to welcome you post-Open.
1.7 miles: SOL Mexican Cocina (pictured) at Scottsdale is not only the top spot for tasty margaritas and guac, but its happy hour Mondays through Fridays from 3 to 6 p.m. offers flavor-packed and wallet-friendly dishes to enjoy after a day at the Open. We are especially fond of the unique $3 black bean-sweet potato taco and refreshing watermelon copita ($5), which is a hearty helping of cold watermelon cubes paired with fresh lime and chile con limon.
2 miles: Dominick’s Steakhouse at Scottsdale Quarter provides a gorgeous place to indulge in post-WMPO eats. Stop by the bar from 4 to 6 p.m. for the Early Bar Menu, which includes tasty martinis and sangria, lobster grilled cheese and colossal shrimp cocktail.
3.7 miles: The Living Room at Market Street at DC Ranch menu offers a variety of stellar eats for before or after the Open. During the weekday happy hour, dig into snacky eats like edamame or olives or more hearty eats, including sliders and flatbread. Plus, the stellar patio allows for soaking up the cool air and warm sun.
2.4 miles: Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers in North Scottsdale is home to comfy indoor/outdoor dining, plenty of TV’s to keep tab on the sports action and a great happy hour on weekdays, from 3 to 6 p.m., that is perfect for enjoying before heading home post-Open. Grab a cold beer and side it with a jumbo salted pretzel, mozzarella sticks and, of course, an All-American Burger. Bonus for those visiting Old Town: Ride the Cold Beers’ bus to the Waste Management Golf Open on Friday, Feb. 2. The bus will pick up from the Old Town Cold Beers (4222 N. Scottsdale Rd.) and from Famous 48 (4218 N. Scottsdale Rd.) The bus ride is $25 round trip with complimentary beer on the bus. Call the Cold Beers, 480.941.2747, or Famous 48, 480.758.4994, locations to book your seats on the bus.
3.7 miles: Jalapeno Inferno at DC Ranch can offer up a little spice to wind down your Phoenix Open outing. From “monster” nachos to top-shelf ceviche to its famous green corn tamales (offered for just $4.50 during happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday), this beloved longtime Valley eatery has the goods to please a hungry crowd.
2.1 miles: Postino Kierland is the perfect setting for kicking back–with an Arizona wine in hand–and relaxing over a board of bruschetta (the ricotta with dates and pistachios is a favorite) after being on your feet all day.
Less than a mile: The Plaza Bar at Fairmont Scottsdale Princess will transform into “The Fade” @ The Plaza Bar during WMPO (Wednesday through Sunday, 1 p.m. to close). “The Fade” will feature a Travis Mathew Pop-Up Shop, golf-themed decor (like a giant chandelier made of golf clubs!), DJ’s Wednesday to Sunday, a featured cocktail and more. Valet at the resort is complimentary with a $75 purchase in any of the resort restaurants or at The Plaza Bar.  Self-parking is $40. (Regarding parking at the resort: at the check-points, one would need to say they are coming to the resort, not just for WMPO parking.)
