April 30 is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, and restaurant group POV Foods is making an effort to do its part by hosting several events at its dog-friendly patio restaurants. 32 Shea in Phoenix, Lakeside Bar & Grill in Peoria, and Red, White & Brew in Prescott, all known for their dog-friendly outdoor atmospheres, will be hosting events to bring attention to furry friends in need.
At 32 Shea, the adoption event will begin at 4 p.m. on the patio, featuring live music and pet vendors. Participating partners include Home Fur Good, Desert Dog Project, and Pet Supplies Plus, which will host a booth and provide donation bags for new adopters.
Same-day adoptions may be available at the Phoenix event, depending on the interview process. Adoption fees typically range from about $150 for senior dogs to $250 to $350 for younger dogs, with some purebred dogs priced higher. To celebrate new pet families, 32 Shea will provide water, pup cups, and complimentary lunch or dinner entrees to guests who adopt a dog that day.
At Lakeside, the celebration takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. with a special “Yappy Hour” hosted on the restaurant’s patio. “Guests can meet adoptable pets while enjoying the neighborhood sports bar’s relaxed atmosphere. Dogs in attendance will receive a free item from the restaurant’s Tail Wagger menu, and 20 percent of sales during the event will be donated to the participating rescue organization.
Red, White & Brew will open early for the occasion at 11 a.m. The restaurant will raise awareness with help from United Animal Friends. The nonprofit will be on-site until 2 p.m. to share information about adoptable pets and its adoption process, which includes home visits before placements.
Guests attending the Prescott event can bring their dogs to enjoy a free “Puppy Patty,” take photos with a photographer near the restaurant’s pet-friendly fire hydrant, and enter raffles for complimentary grooming services. The restaurant will also host a round-up fundraiser, along with opportunities to donate money and pet supplies to support the rescue group. Learn more at povfoods.com.
