Chef Robert McGrath opened Scottsdale’s Renegade Canteen a few years back–and now Chef Aaron May (you know him–Over Easy, Praying Monk, Mabel’s on Main) has transformed the sleek dining spot into Renegade Kitchen and Tap. May strives for the casual yet chic dining spot to server “delicious, unpretentious food and a diverse bar offering that’s enjoyable to the connoisseur as well as the average guy,” he says.
The restaurant is warm and welcoming with lots of woods, neutral colors and a wowza of a wine cellar. It is located smack-dab in the middle of the dining area and is encased in glass, giving diners a 360-degree view of Renegade’s bottles. Outside, diners are invited to take a meal fireside–perfect for Arizona’s lovely fall and winter weather.
On the menu, winners include the lobster taco, which is sweet and spicy and features a generous amount of crisped lobster; a spectacular Cobb salad; some of the Valley’s tastiest French fries; short ribs with jalapeno grits; pan-roasted duck breast and much more.
Happy hour is offered every day from 4:30 to 6 p.m., and the Scottsdale restaurant recently opened for lunch. https://www.facebook.com/rcanteen.
