Historic Tennis Event at The Greenbrier

Known as “America’s Resort,” The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, has been known for its luxurious accommodations and vast grounds teeming with amenities for the sporty traveler. With a total of ten tennis courts and four golf courses, one of which is a private member’s only course, The Greenbrier is a sanctuary for relaxation and enjoyment through these athletic mediums.

If one is a serious golfer, they must love to compare themselves to the pros and playing where the pros have is always a thrill. At the Greenbrier, the championship golf courses are home to the Greenbrier Classic, a PGA Tour FedEx Cup event. With designers like Jack Nicklaus and Tom Fazzio it’s no wonder these courses have held such tournaments as the 1979 Ryder Cup and the 1994 Solheim Cup. Steeped with such history of the sport, the courses at the Greenbrier are perfect for the wandering golfer.

Following the success of the Greenbrier Classic, is the first annual Greenbrier Champions Tennis Classic. Utilizing the championship tennis facilities, the first match will slate American tennis legend John McEnroe against decorated tennis star Pete Sampras. This is quite the match-up as they have 21 men’s singles grand slam titles between them. It will be a one-day event and includes a pro-am. The match will be held on September 22nd and seating will be fifty dollars per person. This event will add a new tradition to the already historic Greenbrier Resort and is something classic tennis fan won’t want to miss out on.
