Flow into Westin Kierland’s Flowrider

We may live in the Valley of the Sun, surrounded by desert landscape and the nearest beach is hours away across the country border, but that doesn’t mean we can’t bring the surf of the west coast to the southwest?

Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale has outdone them selves with a surf stimulator called the “FlowRider”, pushing 58,400 gallons of water to form an easy-to-ride wave for water enthusiasts of all skill levels. Opened in October 2012, the Kierland FlowRider is the first of its kind in the Arizona market, bringing the Hawaiian tradition to the Sonoran desert. Guests staying this spring and summer can delve into the water world of Flowboarding, testing their skills under the supervision of Steve “Wave Master” Richardson.

If your kids are looking for some serious wave time this summer, Kierland FlowRider at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa is offering an all-day, weekly Surf Camp, led by Steve Richardson. Surf Camp is designed for kids ages 8 – 12 (at least 52” tall) with with personalized coaching from the “Wave Master.” Each day will consist of ride time to learn and improve bodyboard and flowboarding skills, participating in surf-related activities, and discovering epic ways to stay healthy and active. Each morning begins with Flow-ga, a specialized FlowRider yoga, developed with Resort fitness director, Steve Heller for optimal stretching and flexibility as it relates to the sport of flowboarding. The week-long camps run consecutively starting June 3rd through the week of July 29th. Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Cost is $450 per child for the week-long camp.
