City you live in: Phoenix

A typical day in my life includes…

well, right now it includes working about 10 hours a day getting our new nonprofit foundation, GK Legacy, up and running and spreading the word about our Keep Your Chin Up Scholarship program.

I was born…

a native Phoenician.

My favorite thing about Arizona…

my entire family is here…and I also love the weather! Yes, even the summers!

I’m listening to…

my ADD is usually in high gear so I don’t listen to much of anything while I’m working except maybe the voices in my head.

My family…

is more important to me than anything else in this world.

If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be…

my dad, who passed away last year.  We used to have father/daughter dinner dates to catch up, and I’d give anything to have just one more.

One thing I cannot live without…

my grandkids!

When I was younger, I wanted to be…

a teacher.

I’m inspired by…

people who do for others even in the face of their own adversity.

The one person who motivates me is…

David.

If I could change anything in the world, it would be…

to end addiction.

The perfect day would be…

a day at the spa.

My first job was…

Taco Bell.

My favorite escape…

Pelican Hill in Newport Beach.

My life…

is crazy, busy and blessed.

I’m currently working on…

GK Legacy Foundation, a new nonprofit created to help Arizona residents age twenty-five and older better their lives through education. We just awarded $25,000 in scholarships to seven Arizona residents.  When I’m not working, you will most likely find me with our three grandchildren and spending time with my family.

Always…

live your life with integrity.

Never…

burn bridges.

Favorite Quote…

“Today is a good day for a good day.”

Biggest Dream…

to watch my dad’s legacy change lives in Arizona through education. He was my mentor, my friend and my hero, and now through our new foundation, he will get to be a hero to so many more.

My Pet Peeve(s)…

when people are dismissive of others.

More about Peggy and GK Legacy Foundation…

“Keep your chin up, kid.” My siblings and I heard this phrase a lot as kids and even more often as adults. Anytime we faced adversity, our father, George Keown “GK” would say it to us to encourage us to stay positive and keep going.  He worked hard to teach us that we could accomplish anything, regardless of any obstacles, so long as we believed in ourselves and always gave it our best.

When we lost our dad to mesothelioma in 2018, we knew that he would want us to continue to encourage others to keep their chin up no matter the circumstance, and that is the reason GK Legacy Foundation was born.

We created our Keep Your Chin Up Scholarship program to offer scholarships to Arizona residents age 25 and older because we want to help those who are deeply embedded into our community who want to improve their lives through education. Adults face so many obstacles when deciding to further their education, and we want to help make the decision easier by offering financial assistance for their tuition.
