Age:  57

Title:  President & CEO of Derma Health

Married/Single:  single/widowed

Kids: none. I grew up in a family of seven kids. My mother always said, “Don’t ever let anyone tell you must have kids,” so I didn’t.

City you live in:  Tempe

A typical day in my life includes…

a 5 a.m. workout of running and weights. 30 minutes for news briefs and then planning the day in my home office. Business Office by 8:30. Meetings most days. Weekly visits to the clinics. Dance lessons in the evenings many times. I like the activity better than television.

I was born…

in a small farming community in South Dakota. We had a farm and my dad also owned a department store in town. When we grew up my mother said, “Get out of this little town and go see the world, otherwise you’ll be baking cinnamon rolls on the farm and have kids hanging at your feed.” I left South Dakota, graduated from ASU in Tempe and never left. I love Arizona!

My favorite thing about Arizona…

it’s a big city but still a small town. It’s easy to do business here. Sunsets and sunrises are beautiful and I love the warm weather and desert. It’s one of the prettiest cities/states I’ve seen in all my years. Everything is so clean and the plants are all so beautiful.

I’m listening to…

silence. There is so much noise in the world. I like time to myself to think. And when I don’t, I love country music.

My family…

is so supportive and loving. Six siblings, we are all close, and two great parents and grandparents. They allowed us to be ourselves but pushed us to best the best we could be. They pushed education hard and we grew up with good Christian values. And we always laugh a lot.

If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be…

Oprah. She’s a big thinker and trying to make great changes to the world around enlightenment. That said, dinner is hardly enough to learn anything. I would love to spend a year with her.

One thing I cannot live without…

being connected with God. And then time with family. That’s my grounding.

When I was younger, I wanted to be…

a flight attendant and fly around the world.

I’m inspired by…

Elon Musk. Wow! He’s such a visionary and changing our world and the way we live. He’s so driven.

The one person who motivates me is…

there are many – but here is one: President of ASU, Dr. Michael Crow. Each time I hear him speak, I think, “Wow, what should I be doing that I’m currently not?”. He’s taken a big university and made it global while still staying small and involving people/community into ASU (he measures ASU by who it includes…not excludes). I’m proud and inspired that ASU is No. 1 in innovation for so many years and now a top research University in the world, solving real life challenges.

If I could change anything in the world, it would be…

poverty. Ensuring everyone has the ability to have their basic needs met, education and the ability to pursue their dreams.

The perfect day would be…

inspiring and growing people and having instant gratification to be able to see the growth right then and there.

My first job was…

working in a café as a waitress at age 15. I used the money to pay for rent and feed for my horse, Nico. I was such a cowgirl as a kid.

My favorite escape…

riding my Harley Davidson through the Black Hills of South Dakota (home). It’s so beautiful and peaceful with the wind through your hair and the sound of the engine.

I’m currently working on…

scaling my business. Making it systematically run in all aspects from people development to the delivery of a great customer experience.

Always…

stay true to your values.

Never…

give up.

Favorite Quote…

“Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”

Biggest Dream…

to stand in heaven one day and have God say, ‘”you did good”.

My Pet Peeve(s)…

the tiny little buckles on women’s strappy shoes. I can never get them hooked.
