Age: 35

Title: Author, Fly Designer, Lecturer, Materials Expert and Creator of www.saltyflytying.com

Married/Single: Blissfully married to my fishing buddy Susan.

Kids: 2 kinda… My 3-year-old Lucy, aka Capt. Lou and my dog Orvis.

City you live in: Scottsdale

A typical day in my life includes…

starting with copious amounts of coffee and a Mickey Mouse Club House filled trip to drop Lucy off… after that who knows, it’s always something new.

I was born…

in a small town, in the Finger Lakes region of central New York.

My favorite thing about Arizona…

is the absence of mosquitos and snow.

I’m listening to…

an eclectic mix of Jimmy Buffet, Bob Marley, Hank Williams Jr., David Allen Coe, AC/DC, Thievery Corporation, Prodigy & The Rolling Stones.

My family…

is an awe-inspiring group of ridiculously talented and driven individuals. They continually put others over themselves, and make whatever compromises necessary to be together.

If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be…

a toss up between Dale Chihuly, Anthony Bourdain, Sean Connery and Ted Nugent…Ideally we would all be circled up at the same table for sushi.

One thing I cannot live without…

are microfiber shirts, man it’s hot here!

When I was younger, I wanted to be…

a Doctor, but Bio Chemistry helped me come to my senses.

I’m inspired by…

my Father, he is 160 lbs. of pure grit, tenacity, compassion and kindness.

The one person who motivates me is…

Bernard “Lefty” Kreh. He’s 88 years old and is still recognized as the best in the Fly Fishing industry worldwide.

If I could change anything in the world, it would be…

the pollution in the oceans. Contaminated water is No Bueno’ for the fish.

The perfect day would be…

taking in a sunrise over still water from the bow of a flats boat…Followed by fly-fishing, snorkeling and shenanigans with my girls all afternoon. The evening would consist of cooking for all the friends and family, and sharing a glass of wine or two… And rap it all up with a few laughs around a bonfire before crawling in to my own bed with my wife and dog.

My first job was…

mowing lawns and shooting woodchucks at the Castle Grisch Winery… pretty much the same gig Carl Sparkler had in Caddyshack.

My favorite escape…

is a quite flat in the Caribbean, with turquoise colored water, hungry fish, fresh ceviche, and cold beer.

My life…

is pretty hard to complain about. I’m doing what I love and enjoying every minute of it. I’m blessed!

I’m currently working on…

my 6th fly flying book, tying up a batch of bonefish flies, planning our next saltwater adventure, and determining what to make for dinner.

Always…

bring a bottle of wine if you’re invited and cook more than you think you’ll need if you’re hosting.

Never…

pass up a hunting/fishing trip… Every one you miss is one you’ll never get back.

Favorite Quote…

“I fish because I love to. Because I love the environs where trout are found, which are invariably beautiful, and hate the environs where crowds of people are found, which are invariably ugly. Because of all the television commercials, cocktail parties, and assorted social posturing I thus escape. Because in a world where most men seem to spend their lives doing what they hate, my fishing is at once an endless source of delight and an act of small rebellion. Because trout do not lie or cheat and cannot be bought or bribed, or impressed by power, but respond only to quietude and humility, and endless patience. Because I suspect that men are going this way for the last time and I for one don’t want to waste the trip. Because mercifully there are no telephones on trout waters. Because in the woods I can find solitude without loneliness. … And finally, not because I regard fishing as being so terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant and not nearly so much fun.”― Robert Traver

Biggest Dream

is to travel the world with my girls (and dog) chronicling our adventures, while sampling and savoring the local cuisine and culture at each stop.

My Pet Peeve(s)…

people that are perpetually late, and I just can’t stand obnoxiously loud talkers in movie theaters or restaurants.
