Statement Pillows from Madeline Weinrib

Ikat Pillows

Brightly colored pillows and fabrics can really liven up a room. I, for example, have a very basic beige-y brown colored couch, but what really makes it pop are the vivid orange throw pillows that I have strewn across it. If you have a couch, chair or bed that is looking slightly blasé, painter-turned-designer Madeline Weinrib has a solution for you with her exciting new pillows and fabrics.

Madeline Weinrib’s pillows are most definitely beautiful, but practicality is not lost in her design, as she boasts a variety of collections, each with many different color options to keep even the pickiest pillow-seekers satisfied. Madeline Weinrib’s style is quite unique as well, as she uses a variety of different fabrics and traditional hand-weaving techniques.

One of my favorite of Madeline Weinrib’s collections are the decorative Ikat Pillows. Created with an extraordinary use of color, the Ikat Pillows feature explosive and graphic prints in all different colors. New to the Ikat collection are the Luce Ikat, Remy Ikat and Sadu Ikat.

The Suzani collection is also quite beautiful with a softer approach than the Ikat Pillows. These pillows are all hand-woven and weave bright and cheery greens, lavenders and pinks into playful images of birds, foliage and blossoms. Styles include Carnation, Sunder and Vintage Suzani.

Another of Weinrib’s pillow collections that I would love to have sitting on my sofa are those in the Organic Blockprint collection. Produced by highly skilled craftsmen in Rajasthan, India, these pillows feature a variety of different prints in an assortment of bright and soft colors. Each design in the Blockprint collection is carefully applied using a singly, intricately carved teakwood block.

In addition to Madeline Weinrib’s beloved decorative pillows, she also creates an assortment of beautiful carpets, fabrics, evening bags, furniture (specifically chairs) and accessories including table linens, bedding, beach towels and picture frames. True to her style, each of her pieces includes show-stopping colors, prints and textures.

About Madeline Weinrib: Before she was a designer, Madeline Weinrib was a painter—which therefore explains her intense love for color. As the great-granddaughter of Max Weinrib, the founder of ABC Home & Carpet, Madeline Weinrib has carried on the family tradition with her collection of artisan-crafted carpets and textiles. Transforming her work as a painter into woven form, Madeline Weinrib created her first carpet collection in 1998. Madeline Weinrib’s recent projects include a bespoke flooring installation for the Brooklyn Academy of Music and a signature carpet designed for the Neue Gallery.
