Rodarte’s New Rugs are California Dreaming

Rodarte has collaborated with the Rug Company on a duet of two new rugs inspired by ’70s California culture. The collection, aptly called “California Dreaming,” is crafted from hand-knotted Tibetan wool and silk.

California Poppy—Symbolic of home for the Rodarte sisters, this iconic poppy design was originally inspired by their mother’s artwork and is also emblematic of California’s state flower. Crafted in a soft wool base, the delicate poppy motif is highlighted in silk, creating the effect of blooms in sunlight.

“We found our mother’s paper cuts of California poppies when we were young and saved it, knowing how special the artwork was.… Since then, California and the poppies have become a constant theme of reference for us.”

Daphne—Highlighting Rodarte’s affection for the 1970s, Daphne is inspired by an iconic shag coat, while the symmetrical design draws inspiration from the intricate markings of the Daphnis moth. Woven with the finest silk and wool to create a compact rich texture, while appearing feathery and unstrained.
