Top Spring 2009 Trends

In New York, it’s all about Fall Fashion Week, but as the temps start to rise here, my mind is all over spring fashion. I’ll be doing individual posts on some of spring 2009’s fashion trends but in the meantime, here’s a quick overview of what some of the hottest runway trends are for Spring 2009.

Hooray for spring!

Nude Colors

As much as bright bold colors were, nude-tones were also a huge spring 2009 trend. This Robert Rodriguez ruffle dress from Saks Fifth Avenue is supercute and playful.

Hot Pink

The “It” color this season is definitely hot pink. Try a hot pink dress to channel the trend like this Rebecca Taylor dress from Saks Fifth Avenue.

Graphic Prints

Last spring it was all about artist-inspired prints. This season it’s all about graphic prints. If you’re hesitant to embrace the trend, try just a top like this Piazza Sempione one from Neiman Marcus.

Harem Pants

Go ahead and channel your inner belly dancing diva because the harem pants are back. Yes, you read that right. I’ll be honest and say I’m not sure how I really feel about this trend; it was all over the fall 2008 runways too. If you’re daring enough to try it I’d stick with basic black, a tucked in blouse and some heels. These Elizabeth and James harem pants are from Intermix.

Jumpsuits

So here’s a trend that’s growing on me much faster than I’d like to admit….the jumpsuit. They used to bring to mind images of J.Lo in the 90’s wearing those head-to-toe denim numbers with huge hoop earrings (eww). But the more I look at the chic ones that are out now, the more I’m starting to….really, really like them. This Marley jumpsuit is from Intermix. Look for a whole post on jumpsuits next week!

Blazers

Blazers are one of those mainstay fashion staples that should always be in your closet and this season, they’re hotter than ever. The slim-cut look and great tailoring make a great blazer a definite must-have piece. This Stella McCartney blazer from Neiman Marcus is the perfect showpiece for both dressy and casual looks.

Statement Necklaces

The plan is to kill two birds with one stone with this news: Statement necklaces like the one pictured are totally hot and it comes from the new Erickson Beamon line of necklaces for Target. That’s right, Erickson Beamon for Target! Can you say “Yeah!?!?!?!”

Try a statement necklace with a simple outfit like a plain black dress so the accessory is the standout piece.

  1. Yes yes, that jumpsuit is cute and would be adorable on someone with, say, Giselle’s body. But I would look totally ridiculous! I’m jealous of anyone who can pull that look off!

  2. Yes to the necklace. Yes to the Robert Rodriguez dress. No, no, no to jumpsuits. I can’t help but picture them with J.Lo’s high-heeled construction boots.

  3. I do like the blazer idea. It’s really perfect here for spring. Cold in the mornings, and sometimes still cold inside during the day due to the a/c!

PS Love the jumpsuit but seeing as I’m not stick thin and 6 feet tall I know this is a trend I’ll pass on.
