The Return of the Maxi Dress

I can’t deny my love of long dresses. Yes, I am petite and wearing an ankle length dress isn’t necessarily a height builder but, there is nothing more easy and comfortable than throwing on one darling piece and out the door you go. Fashion naysayers said that it was “over” death to the maxi, but you can’t bring a good dress down…my love, they are back! Now I ask you darling did they really ever go away? I mean Old Navy has been pumping out the maxi dress for over three years now, not that I would call ON “high fashion” but, it is after all the scene on the streets that dictates is it not?

So this season there are plenty of ways to wear your maxi…other than the standard AZ dress code of pairing it with flip flops, and if you want to get the jump and wear your long dresses now here are a few ways to wear them Pre- Spring.

I just love all the Rachel Pally dresses this season…Ms Rachel always manages to perfectly mix that sophistication with California casual in a way like no one else. Seriously you can ball up two or three of these dresses in an overnight bag and still look effortless and gorgeous the next day or two.

This season mix a Rachel maxi with a fitted blazer and chunky heels like these Robert Clergerie platforms at Barney’s for a decidedly downtown vibe. I love the Elizabeth and James Blazer as well plus it goes with dresses, jeans, leggings…and on and on.

Another sleek option I love is the Splendid long sleeve jersey dress. Pair it with these black and turquoise Tory Burch sandals and you will be the coolest chic at the charity luncheon.

The bohemian and haute hippie trends continue on this season with minor tweaks of course. This year it’s more about editing the right pieces rather than piling on all the wrong ones.

To get the look this Meadow print dress from TopShop worn with this Rachel Zoe faux fur vest is a killer combination. And these Chloe lace up heels give it a fresh devil- may- care vibe.

Or if you are feeling a bit more haute hippie, a fashionista friend pointed out this Victoria Secret off the shoulder print dress. I can’t remember the last time I perused their catalog, but this is definitely a find! I would pair it with the “Carson” ankle boots by Frye available at Nordstroms. I know some people are still afraid of cowboy boots, but if done right and not too ornate…the ankle length option is fabulous.

Both of these feminine looks go great with a big chunky cocktail ring like this Alexis Bittar and a double wrap belt like this one from Pacsun.
