It’s safe to say that beauty standards differ around the world. But how, exactly, do perceptions of beauty vary across the globe?
That is the question OnlineDoctor.SuperDrug.com hoped to answer in a study titled “Perceptions of Perfections Across Borders.” The website enlisted marketing agency Fractl to pose the question to female graphic designers from 18 different countries to Photoshop a given female form by making her attractive according to the beauty standards of their respective countries.
The goal of the project was to “better understand potentially unrealistic standards of beauty and to see how such pressures vary around the world.”
From the U.S. to the Philippines, it’s shocking to see how beauty ideals change from one country to the next. While the model was Photoshopped to be very thin in China and Italy, other countries like Syria and Peru favored more curvaceous forms.
Body type wasn’t the only thing that was manipulated, however; with hair, skin tone and even shoes being changed to fit the country’s ideal woman.
