Happy birthday, RA Sushi Bar Restaurant! Ra’s Mesa location in Dana Park is turning two, and next week–Thursday, Feb. 11–the restaurant (and our Best of Our Valley winner for Best Asian Cuisine & Sushi) is celebrating from 8 to 11 p.m. with Big Top Bottoms Up. The restaurant will be converted into a burlesque-themed circus, with freakishly entertaining acts, food specials and special cocktails.
Among the sushi specials are two-for-one sushi rolls: the Ringmaster Roll ($9.25) and the Viva Las Vegas Roll ($12.25). The Ringmaster Roll is served with spicy salmon, cucumber, cilantro and jalapeno, rolled and topped with avocado and sriracha. The Viva Las Vegas Roll features Kani Kama crab and cream cheese rolled in rice and seaweed, lightly tempura battered and topped with spicy tuna, Kani Kama crab mix, sliced lotus root, sweet eel sauce and spinach tempura bits. The ringmasters will mix up cocktail specials, including the Juggler Shot, a potent concoction of fruit juices and vodka ($2) and the Flame Thrower, with Jagermeister, cranberry juice, and triple sec ($4). RA Sushi’s newest beer, Chang Lager will also be on special for $3 during the Bottoms Up Circus.
D.J. Chris Villa from 101.5 Jamz will be serving up hot beats throughout the evening. A contortionist and fire dancer will also roam the tent. There is no cover charge for the Big Top Bottoms Up event, but menu prices apply. RA Sushi in Dana Park is located at 1652 S. Val Vista Dr., Mesa. 480.632.9500, www.rasushi.com.
