Phoenix Roaster Moxie Wins Gold Medal at Global Coffee Awards

Moxie Coffee Co., a specialty micro roaster based in Phoenix, has earned a prestigious Gold Medal at the Global Coffee Awards (GCA) U.S. & Canada regional competition. The event, held in Houston, recognized Moxie in the Filter Coffee (Experimental Process) category for its standout coffee, Letty Bermudez.

Sourced from Cauca, Colombia, Letty is produced by Diego Bermudez and underwent a double anaerobic tropical yeast fermentation process – an innovative method that reflects Moxie’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of specialty coffee. This experimental approach, coupled with the company’s commitment to relationships, helped distinguish Moxie among a competitive field of entries.

“This award reflects our entire team’s commitment to quality and cultivating long term relationships with incredible coffee producers like Diego Bermudez. We’re proud to represent Phoenix and the state of Arizona at the Global Coffee Awards,” said Moxie’s founder and owner, Matt Heltzel.

The winners were selected through blind judging by an international panel of coffee experts, underscoring the caliber of Moxie’s entry. As a regional winner, Moxie is invited to attend the GCA Awards Ceremony at the Producer & Roaster Forum (PRF) in El Salvador, taking place March 2026. There, they will advance to the Global Finals to compete for the ultimate title of World’s Best Roaster.

Open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Moxie’s café has become a hub, and its beans are featured in coffee shops and restaurants across the Valley and beyond. Moxie plans to expand its offerings with the launch of an in-house European-inspired bakery. The menu will include cardamom buns, croissants, and smørbrød toasts, further elevating the café experience for their growing community. Learn more at moxiecoffeeco.com.
