Spring Blooms With Extended Hours at Boyce Thompson Arboretum

A season of blooms and beauty has begun at Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Superior. Throughout May, the business is hosting exclusive Member Month events alongside an exciting lineup of educational and family-friendly programming.

Escape to shaded trails, vibrant desert wildflowers, and melodic birdsong for an extra two hours of access daily, as the Arboretum opens early from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. in May. Executive Director Kim Gray will be leading a Members-Only Walking Tour on May 3 to share the Arboretum’s upcoming plans and research initiatives.

“The extended hours offer a unique opportunity to experience the grounds in the cooler and quieter parts of the day, making it ideal for enjoying the trails, spotting vibrant cactus blooms, and catching a glimpse of wildlife during the times when they are most active,” Gray said.

Other upcoming events include Arizona Bat Night on May 17 from 7 to 10 p.m., Nature Play on select Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the children’s garden, and Yoga in the Garden on April 19 from 9 to 10 a.m. with certified instructor Deb McClarnon, among others.

“The Arboretum itself is a gem for nature lovers,” Gray said. “It’s a haven that blends shaded trails, vibrant flora, and local wildlife, offering a beautiful and enriching outdoor experience, providing visitors not only a place to explore but also an opportunity to learn and connect with nature on a deeper level.”

As Arizona’s oldest and largest botanical garden, Boyce Thompson Arboretum covers a total of 372 acres and is home to more than 20,000 desert plants from around the world. Founded in 1924, the Arboretum has blossomed into one of Arizona’s top tourism draws over the past century. For more information, visit btarboretum.org.
