S. Maranto’s is Now Open in N. Scottsdale, Dishing Up Nonna’s Italian Classics

Scottsdale has a new Italian restaurant and market to dig into.

Located on the northwest corner of Scottsdale Rd. and Mayo Blvd., S. Maranto’s serves up Italian comfort food favorites, like homemade pasta, craft salads and build-your-own sandwiches, within a welcoming space reminiscent of an old-school Italian kitchen meets boutique marketplace that also features a full bar and alfresco patio dining.

S. Maranto‘s pays homage to Sam Maranto, who is long considered to be one of the fathers of Italian-American cuisine. A son of first generation Sicilian immigrants, Maranto opened his namesake restaurant in 1948, serving up authentic Italian dishes that put the spotlight on simple, quality ingredients in an approachable manner.

Now, more than 70 years later, S. Maranto’s North Scottsdale is carrying on Maranto’s legacy and “no frills” values with the credo that the best ingredients create the best food, and a meal is never complete without good company.

“We want to serve the best version of Italian-American comfort food…food that Nonna used to make…and food that has a lot of history,” says Michael Miller of Camelback Hospitality.

To start, menu highlights include house meatballs in a rich pomodoro sauce, parmesan, and rosemary focaccia; a kale salad with cabbage, pine nuts, herbs, tangerine olives, and parmesan in a honey citrus dressing; and a chopped antipasto with iceberg, salami, soppressata, Frescatrano olives, pepperoncini, tomato, cucumber, and onion that’s perfect for sharing.

Not-to-miss mains include classic Italian sandwiches, like sausage and pepper, caprese, and eggplant parmesan; handcrafted pastas, like spaghetti and meatballs, spicy vodka fusilli, and baked rigatoni; as well as classic platters, such as eggplant parmesean, meatball parmesean, and sausage and peppers.
