With a menu packed with amazing dishes, a great wine list and a super-relaxed patio, Timo on Central in Phoenix should be on your spring must-try list. (Timo on Central is from the Wild Thyme Restaurant Group, which is also responsible for Ken’s Creekside and the new Timo in Sedona, Brick, Spoke and Wheel and more.)
While the weather is still in the double digits, request a seat on the patio and take in the fire pit and lovely twinkle lights that decorate the large trees on the Timo patio. It is romantic and private, yet Timo’s great happy hour menu also makes it a fun spot to have a casual after-work meet-up with pals.
From pizzas to tapas, the majority of Timo’s menu is perfect for sharing. The escargot Barcelona is a divine dish that is comforting and decadent and packed with bursts of spinach, tomatoes and garlic. Even those who might be iffy on escargot will enjoy this dish. Another shareable table favorite are the corn cakes crowned with smoked salmon and a dollop of fresh dill and cream. The palm-size corn cakes are light and just-right for getting those taste buds revved before the entrees arrive.
A salad course should surely be in order at Timo. The brussels sprout salad is a tasty medley of sweet, savory, crunchy and creamy, thanks to pancetta, almonds, toasted nuts, mustard vinaigrette and dried berries.
For heartier entrees, the chicken BLT sandwich with pesto and burrata cheese will please just about anyone (and the bread even held up for leftovers the next day). Craving pasta? The oven-roasted eggplant-ricotta lasagna is an absolute must. The dish is so comforting and homey that Grandma herself could have made it. www.timocentral.com.
