Las Palomas is Arizona’s Luxury Seaside Resort

Jacques Cousteau once called Mexico’s Sea of Cortés “the world’s aquarium.” Here, we like to call Puerto Peñasco—commonly referred to as Rocky Point—“Arizona’s beach.” During the hot, dry summer, we crave sea breezes, cool ocean water, relaxation and activities that will keep the whole family active and entertained. Lucky for us desert-dwellers, Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort is a luxury beachside getaway just a short drive away.

Las Palomas is located in the exclusive Sandy Beach area of Rocky Point and features more than 800 contemporary condos perfect for families, friends and couples looking for a beach getaway just four hours away from Phoenix or Tucson. The condominiums range from one to five bedrooms, each with its own terrace or balcony to take in the breathtaking views, and can sleep up to 10 people.

Casual Luxury & Recreation

Las Palomas was the first resort in Rocky Point to receive a four-diamond rating from AAA. It has also been recognized with a Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice award, placing it in the top 10 percent of hotels worldwide. It’s located just 10 minutes from Old Port and downtown—where you’ll find restaurants, bars, and shops—and popular Rocky Point watering holes like Wrecked at the Reef, with live music on the beach.

Set against the sea and its beautiful beaches, Las Palomas is an ideal locale for exploring or simply taking in the views. Those looking for an active vacation can use Las Palomas as their home base for deep sea fishing, snorkeling, parasailing or kayaking in the Sea of Cortés, or hiking or cycling in the surrounding areas. Even if you choose to stay on the secured grounds of the resort, there are plenty of activities to enjoy for every member of the family.

You can pack light for a road trip to Las Palomas—bathing suits and flip flops are all you need during the day when you can drift on the lazy river, take a trip down the water slide, or lounge in a gorgeous negative-edge pool, taking in the spectacular views and enjoying a cocktail from one of the swim-up bars. Or, stroll over to the full-service spa to indulge in a massage, facial or body treatment.

Bring your workout clothes, too, if you want to participate in activities like Zumba, Aquaerobics, or stretching or to exercise in the fitness center. Or if golf is more your speed, Las Palomas is home to The Links, the only true links golf course on Sandy Beach. Open to resort guests only, it is a professional 18-hole, par-72 course that hosts several events throughout the year, including an annual anniversary tournament.

The resort is also committed to conservation—Las Palomas is nationally certified as a clean beach—and will join forces with plastic artist Memuco and the Intercultural Center for the Study of Desert and Oceans for a special event called “Planet Ocean: Tides Are Changing.” From July 18–23, a series of ocean-centered family events, including talks, exhibits, silent auction of Memuco’s artwork, ecotourism programs, movies and markets, will take place twice daily: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 9 p.m.

If you’re looking for world-class cuisine, Las Palomas is home to the finest restaurants in Rocky Point. La Maria Bistro features Mexican and world fusion in a beautiful seaside setting. Or enjoy gourmet options from Citron. Both venues feature charming bars that are perfect gathering spots for enjoying fine wine, cervezas, margaritas or sophisticated cocktails.

Both restaurants host special events throughout the year, including holiday dinners or private events. This month, guests can learn about tequila and bacanora at mixology classes and tasting events on July 21–22. While you’re probably familiar with tequila, bacanora is a similar agave spirit with a more earthy, savory flavor profile. Sample both, straight up or as a cocktail, at tastings in the lobby, or learn more at mixology classes over the course of the two days.

There’s always something happening at Las Palomas, whether it’s a cooking class, a beer or wine tasting, or a holiday celebration. You can make a vacation to Rocky Point as adventurous or as laid-back as you want it to be—and even change it up from day to day.
