Resort Report: Ho Ho Holiday Edition 2

With the Christmas countdown on its final stretch and New Year’s right around the corner, here’s a recap of some of the great places to check out to round out 2012 and ring in the New Year.

First up, chill out with Aspen’s Hotel Jerome. With the recent upgrade to guest rooms including spacious bathrooms, plasma televisions and complimentary wi-fi in every room, Jerome also houses exclusive archival artwork reproduced by the Aspen Historical Society as well as pieces commission by local artists.

For something a little closer to home, check out downtown Phoenix’s Hotel Palomar. Within an arm’s reach away from US Airways Center, Chase Field, the Phoenix Convention Center and the Phoenix Symphony to name a few, Hotel Palomar offers more than a place to lay your head. Enjoy $1 cocktails and lux accommodations including tickets to comedy shows at Stand Up Live and ice skating at CityScape.

If this doesn’t tickle your palette, dine on holiday favorites at the nearby Wigwam Resort. Their restaurant, Litchfield’s, is offering a  three-course meal: a choice of an appetizer, entrée and dessert. Or guests can fill up at ballroom buffet dinner. Set in the Wigwam Ballroom, guests will enjoy a festive spread from noon to 6 p.m. featuring Christmas favorites such as roasted sirloin of beef and pineapple and honey glazed ham.

For New Year’s Eve, The Wigwam is providing several options to ring in 2013 in style:

  • Dinner at Red’s Bar &Grill features a four-course dinner, diners will also be able to watch the ball drop live in New York. Cost is $46 per person.
  • Dinner at Litchfield’s celebrate New Year’s Eve with savory seasonal culinary creations. This four-course dinner is $65 per person.
  • Kick off the evening with a New Year’s Eve Gala cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m. at the Wigwam Ballroom, and then enjoy the culinary creations of Executive Chef Lenard Rubin with a four-course dinner. Cap the evening at the New Year’s Eve Celebration. Cost is $150 per couple.
  • New Year’s Eve Celebration. Dance the night away to your favorite hits spanning from the ‘60s to today with live entertainment by the Thaddeus Rose Band at the Wigwam Ballroom from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Party-goers will ring in the New Year with a champagne toast, balloon drop, and festive party favors. Tickets are $25 per person, or $15 for those dining at Red’s Bar & Grill or Litchfield’s that evening.

And for the adventurous at heart, Tahoe is showcasing a new boutique hotel with an affordable price tag: Basecamp Hotel. The reclaimed snowboarders’ motel boasts 50 rooms huddled in the heart of Tahoe city, within a 5-minute walk to the lake and even less to Heavenly Gondola. This epicenter of rustic-meet-modern, adventure-meets-affordable and earth-friendly carves out lodging niche only Basecamp could fulfill.
