In a time when travelers are increasingly seeking experiences that combine luxury with environmental responsibility, Ambiente, A Landscape Hotel is proving that sustainability and high-end hospitality can go hand in hand. The adults-only retreat has recently earned Four Green Keys from Green Key Global, a distinction that recognizes the property’s leadership in environmentally responsible design, construction, and operations while still delivering a refined guest experience in one of Arizona’s most iconic landscapes.

The recognition reflects a larger shift in how people travel. Sustainable tourism has moved far beyond a niche interest, with travelers increasingly prioritizing low-impact stays and deeper connections to the places they visit. Ambiente’s approach taps directly into that mindset, offering guests a luxurious escape while also respecting and protecting the surrounding environment.
The Four Green Keys designation places the Sedona retreat among a group of hotels that meet the highest international standards for sustainability and conservation. The award highlights Ambiente’s commitment to reducing its ecological footprint while preserving the beauty that draws visitors to the region.

Set on three acres of high desert bordering Coconino National Forest, the “landscape hotel” concept was designed to blend into its surroundings rather than dominate them. Its 40 cube-shaped guest accommodations, known as Atriums, are elevated on stilts to protect the delicate terrain below, allowing the natural environment to remain largely untouched.
“Ambiente was always designed to work in harmony with the land, not compete with it,” Co-owner and founder Jennifer May said. “Earning Four Green Keys validates our belief that luxury and sustainability are not mutually exclusive; they can and should coexist in a way that protects Sedona’s environment while offering guests something truly extraordinary.”

Sustainability is built into nearly every element of the experience. Each Atrium features Eco Bee smart thermostats, energy-efficient LED lighting that complies with Sedona’s Dark Sky standards and floor-to-ceiling low-E glass designed to improve energy efficiency while reflecting the area’s famous red rock scenery. The property’s pool is solar-heated, and all on-site vehicles are fully electric.
Water conservation also plays a central role in the hotel’s environmental approach. During development, ancient waterways on the property were carefully restored and reintegrated into the landscape. These streams are fully recirculating, oxygenated and chemical-free, creating a healthy habitat for rescued koi fish from across Arizona while maintaining a sustainable water system.

Inside the Atriums, design choices continue the sustainability story. Furnishings are crafted from locally sourced downed wood. Decking and carpeting are made from 100 percent recycled materials, with carpets also carrying Green Label certification.
Guests are also invited to participate in conservation efforts through optional towel and sheet reuse programs designed to reduce water and energy use. With its combination of low-impact architecture, environmentally responsible operations, and immersive connection to nature, Ambiente offers a new model for eco-conscious travel.
