Family-Friendly Stay at Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak

Dive-in movies. Tableside smores. An epic waterpark. Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak in Phoenix has all the makings of a family-friendly summer staycation.

While Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak’s sister property, Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs, is a lovely romantic respite, the Squaw Peak property is a favorite of families. In addition to the two smaller, quieter pools located within the North and South Pointe buildings, the resort is home to the super-popular River Ranch. The four-acre River Ranch includes a waterpark with a lazy river and a water slide, a sports pool, an 18-hole miniature putting course and much more. There is a something for every member of the family–from the relaxing lazy river to the action-packed water slide. (Tip: The weekends can be quite busy at River Ranch so come early and stake out your spot.) At night throughout the summer, a portion of River Ranch transforms to allow a large movie screen for a kid-friendly dive-in movie come dusk on Saturday nights.

Pooltime isn’t the only fun the resort has in store for kiddos. At Coyote Camp, kids can enjoy half- or full-days of fun with activities like making nature magnets and desert wind chimes, visits from desert creatures, post-lunch movietime, pinata parties and much more.

When enjoying time at Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak, there are plenty of dining options to keep you on-site during mealtime. Enjoy Breakfast with Yote at Rico’s American Grill. The resort mascot, a friendly coyote named Yote, drops in to take pictures and high-fives with the kiddos while guests enjoy a breakfast buffet (there is an a la carte menu too). Have eggs made to order, fresh-baked pastries, a fresh juice bar and a slew of other tasty a.m. eats. Dinnertime calls for some serious barbecue eats at Hole-in-the-Wall. Enjoy views of River Ranch and top-notch service while noshing on ribs, satisfying barbecue platters, comforting sides (the garlic mashed potatoes and mac and cheese are not to be missed) and, if you feel like dining on the lighter side, the grilled shrimp and peach salad, with candied pecans and farmstead cheese, is divine. And the kids will enjoy a menu tailored just to them that features more than just the usual grilled cheese and PB&J with options like roasted chicken and ribs. For dessert, the tableside smores is a hit with the entire family.

If Mom and Dad can spend a little time away from the wee ones, book an appointment at Tocasierra Spa & Salon. For a refreshing summery pick-me-up, get in for the green tea manicure and pedicure. The treatment includes an antioxidant-rich green tea soak, scrub, massage and hydrating paraffin dip to protect and repair skin, which feels particularly good on sun-dried skin after a day at the pool. You are even invited to sip on sparkling wine while savoring your “me” time.
