When it comes to a luxury getaway, Tempe typically isn’t the first spot that comes to mind. However, Tempe Mission Palms, A Destination Hotel, the area’s only full-service hotel, has recently been revamped and is adding a little more luxe to the cool college town. Here are three reasons to check out Tempe Mission Palms, A Destination Hotel, pronto.

  1. While temps are still in the 100’s, check out the rooftop pool. Surrounded by cabanas (which you don’t have to reserve, by the way) and comfy seating, the pool and its surrounding setup is welcoming to any kind of guest: families with kiddos wanting to make a splash, couples looking for a little romantic respite, girlfriends wanting to let loose and relax. At the poolside eatery, order up salads, burgers, cocktails and kid-friendly eats.
  2. Location, location, location. Tempe Mission Palms is located in Downtown Tempe, within walking distance of Mill Ave. and more than 100 restaurants, bars and shops. (The area has some great new neighbors, like Baked Bear, to boot.) Guests are even a hop, skip and a jump away from a hike up A mountain and the new-and-improved Sun Devils stadium.
  3. Mission Grille and Harry’s Place lounge, both located on site, offer some delicious eats. The breakfast buffet at Mission Grille is chock-full of a.m. favorites (from quiche and biscuits and gravy to lighter fare like oatmeal and fresh juices). Plus, kids five and under eat free with a paying adult. At Harry’s Place, savor the game on the big-screen TV’s and indulge in the cool, laidback atmosphere, whether enjoying a spicy Devil’s Kill at the bar or grabbing a four-top for the awesome pork chop with apple relish or Southwestern chopped salad (we recommend adding grilled shrimp). For dessert, don’t miss the apple-pear pie, especially if you’re ready to get fall kicked off.

Seeking a Labor Day getaway? Through Sept. 10, Tempe Mission Palms is offering a “Summer Scorcher” staycation deal for $149 a night, which includes a daily $100 food and beverage credit, a late check out at 2 p.m. and a waived hospitality fee. Guests can book the deal with the promo code: SUMFUN using this direct link.
