This Weekend’s Big Fitness Events

It’s one of those sweaty, but fun-filled weekends! Enjoy the outdoors and participate in one of the Valley’s fitness events going on this weekend (or just enjoy the festivities).

7th Annual Pat’s Run
Saturday, April 16  –  7 a.m.
Sun Devil Stadium, 500 E. Veterans Way.
Held in honor of Army Ranger Pat Tillman, who died in 2004 while serving with the U.S. Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan, his family and friends established the Pat Tillman Foundation which provides resources and educational scholarship support to veterans, active servicemembers and their dependents. Tillman put his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals oh hold to serve in teh army. So his 4.2-mile run that wraps around downtown Tempe and ends at the 42-yard line at Sun Devil Stadium will celebrate him and feature a finish line expo including more than 40 local and national vendors.

Brian Mickelsen Memorial Half-Marathon, 10K and 2 Mile Run/Walk
Saturday, April 16 – 7:30 a.m.
Riverfront Park, 1285 E. Riverfront Dr.
It’s so good to hear how benevolent our city is… This particular race is held in honor of former Cottonwood City Manager Brian Mickelsen who died while training for a half marathon. Runners can participate in the 2-mile run/walk, 10K run or half-marathon with an awards ceremony for the top three females and male runners in each age group following the races.

Saturday, April 16 – 7 a.m.
Lake Pleasant
Get a load of extreme athletes at the season’s first open-water triathlon at Lake Pleasant! DCB Extreme Adventures will play host to the race which includes an international distance and sprint distance triathlon, where awards will be given to
overall winners and the top three competitors in each age group.

Live Healthy. Live Well.
Saturday, April 16 – 9 a.m.
Heritage Park at Marley Park, 15126 W. Sweetwater Ave.
You don’t have to be an athlete to enjoy Live Healthy. Live Well. Following the free 5K fun run/walk, there will be a health fair featuring free health screenings, health and wellness seminars, spa and massage services, alternative therapies, children’s fitness activities and more, according to The Arizona Republic.

2011 Greater Phoenix Gluten-Free Expo
Saturday, April 16 – 10 a.m.
Shreaton, Crescent Hotel, 2620 W. Dunlap Ave.
Wondering if you should cut gluten out of your diet? Well here’s you chance to learn everything you need to know! This dynamic expo will include gluten-free vendors, food samples and loads of info on celiac disease.
