Starting this Thursday evening, here are a few food-friendly events going on in the Valley this week.
Thursday, Dec. 17: White Truffle Tasting Menu at NOCA Phoenix’s NOCA restaurant was supposed to host the highly anticipated White Truffle Tasting Menu on Dec. 10. However, the truffles were held up in customs (seriously!), forcing the restaurant to push back its truffle dinner. The menu is as follows:
First Course: Hirame Tartar with Lemon Oil, Chives, Crème Fraîche, Brioche Toast Points
Da Milano Langhe Arneis 2008
Second Course: Raviolo with Two Wash Ranch Organic Chicken Yolk, Ricotta, Brown Butter,
Produttori del Barbaresco Nebbiolo delle Langhe 2008
Third Course (choice of): John Dory with Creamy White Polenta, Heirloom Carrots, Hollandaise
Martinelli Bella Vigna Russian River Pinot Noir 2007
or
Prime New York Strip Steak with Potato Gnocchi, Melted Onions, Crispy Marrow, Bordelaise
Da Milano Lecinquevigne Barolo 2004
Dessert: Truffled Ice Cream Sandwich with Salted Butter Gelato, Truffle Honey, Shortbread
Marenco Pineto Brachetto d’Acqui 2008
-Additional Courses-
Butter Poached Maine Lobster ($18 Supplement) with Vanilla Scented Caramelized Salsify, Nage
Il Cascinone Sorilaria Arneis 2007
The dinner is $70 for food without white truffles or choose to add white truffles to any course for a charge of $10. Wine pairings are an additional $30. A vegetarian menu is available by reservation, and menu is subject to change due to market availability. http://restaurantnoca.com/.
Friday, Dec. 18: Guy Fieri’s Roadshow This Food Network mainstay (you know him from “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” and “Guy’s Big Bite”) will take to the stage at Mesa Arts Center on Friday evening. The first-ever Guy Fieri Roadshow is what Fieri calls a “food-apolooza.” Here’s what else Fieri had to say about his Roadshow during my phone chat with him: “If you ever come to my house, and we cook, there’s friends, family and lots of good music. It’s a lot of laughing. It’s a lot of telling jokes, telling stories and carrying on. This is done in a wild, rock and roll style.” Sounds like a good time to us! The chef will be joined by Australian flair bartender, Hayden Wood. Visit http://www.guyfieri.com/tourdates.html to buy tickets and get more information.
Saturday, Dec. 19: Malee’s Thai Bistro Holiday Cooking Class One of our favorite Old Town Thai restaurants, Malee’s, will host a  special red and green themed class featuring Drunken Dragon Wrap (made with green curry); Crispy Basil Chicken (red chilies); Spinach Chicken (red curry); and green Pandan Custard with Black Sticky rice. After the cooking class, all participants get to taste the fruits of their labor with a wine-paired luncheon, as well as take home a goodie bag with key Thai ingredients. Perhaps you’ll learn a few festive tips to try during your own holiday dinners. Classes run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost of the class and luncheon is $60 per person. http://www.maleesthaibistro.com/.
