Nearly ten years after opening in historic Downtown Mesa, Oro Brewing Company is hitting the refresh button. On August 1, the neighborhood brewery reemerged as Oro Brewing & Vice Co., kicking off a new chapter with a grand reopening celebration.
The rebrand is a playful, tongue-in-cheek reset aimed at shaking things up and reintroducing Oro to the neighborhood with a twist: part brewery, part dive bar, part convenience store. Oro Brewing & Vice Co. will now offer an expanded lineup of everyday essentials, from energy drinks and snacks to hygiene and over-the-counter meds.
In a walkable area known for its small business scene, Oro Brewing & Vice Co. fills a practical gap. With the nearest convenience store nearly a mile away, this updated concept brings much-needed amenities right to the community’s doorstep.
It’s all in line with Oro’s ongoing mission: to serve up what the neighborhood wants and needs in one spot. Regulars might do a double-take. Newcomers might assume it’s a brand-new spot. And that’s precisely the reaction Founder Dave Valencia and Director of Operations Grant McLennon were going for.
Inside, guests can enjoy Oro’s signature beers—including the gold medal-winning Trigo Suave, a fruit-forward wheat ale, and King Gus, a hazy double IPA that took top honors at the 2024 Arizona Craft Beer Awards. The refreshed space will also feature a pool table and extended hours soon to accommodate after-shift service industry patrons.
“We’ve always been about great beer and community,” Valencia said. “But this next chapter fills a void we’ve seen in Downtown Mesa for a while. We want to be the place where people can grab a pint, shoot some pool, and stock up on their vices, all under one roof.”
The relaunch also marks a period of expansion for Valencia and the Oro team as they prepare to open Golden Oak Barbecue & Taproom in Downtown Phoenix later this summer. The new concept is a collaboration with Nicky’s Barbecue, led by Co-Owner and Pitmaster Chris Figueroa, whose pop-up built a devoted following across the Valley. Golden Oak will blend Oro’s award-winning beers with regionally inspired barbecue in a welcoming, full-service setting housed in the former Throne Brewing Co. space.
Founded in 2016 by Valencia, Oro Brewing Company has earned a reputation for precision brewing and handcrafted ales and lagers that strike a balance between tradition and innovation. All beers are brewed on-site in their early 1900s adobe building in Downtown Mesa. To learn more, visit orobrewing.com or follow @orobrewingcompany on Instagram.
