With our current economic status, the number of people spending Christmas in the cold has considerably increased in the past two years. And with Arizona’s relatively temperate climate, the number of homeless families in our community is larger than others. That is why the non-profit program “Blanketing Arizona” will be handing out warm clothes and blankets to the homeless in downtown Phoenix on Christmas Eve and is currently seeking local donations.
The program is asking for donations of any of the following items that are not in use, taking up space or if anyone hasn’t had time to drop these items off at a local donation store:
Items needed:
- Blankets – (New and Gently Used)
- Sleeping Bags
- Warm hats
- Gloves
If you would like to contribute, please make a stop by one of the following drop-off locations between now and Monday at Noon, December 21:

About Blanketing Arizona: Starting out simply as a group of friends collaborating for a common cause, Blanketing Arizona has provided more than 1600 blankets and 60 gallons of chili in the past two years, not to mention homemade pastries, cookies and gift bags that all of the generous volunteers donated. The organizers initially were afraid at the outset that no one would come and there would be a ton of blankets left over. Needless to say, that was not the case. Feedback from the volunteers said it was the best holidayl ever because they were able to help so many people in need and now is your opportunity to take part in the act of giving this holiday season.

What a great way to give this year!
What an amazing cause, especially around the holidays.
I saw on Fox 10 about the blanket give away and I thought maybe I could help out for Christmas 2010. Since I am on a limited income I would be looking for blankets to buy starting this month. Do you know of good places to buy blankets? Thank you

Hi Sandra,
We would love to have your help, but you shouldn’t have to buy any blankets. If you have kids in school or a church group that you belong to, you can ask them to donate their gently used blankets. Check out our website, blanketingarizona.org we will be posting information on buying blankets at big discounts, but just getting the word out will really help to support us. Most people have plenty of extra blankets laying in the linen closets.
Thanks so much for your interest,
Lucas
