Art Auction to Give Back

Now’s the time to give back, and what better way than with an exciting art auction at the ever changing Heard Museum in Phoenix. The third Friday evening series called NU (Native + You) heats up in August with this special live auction featuring artwork from the exhibition La Casa Murillo. And when you purchase a piece, know that 20 percent of the auction’s proceeds will be donated to Valle del Sol, a Valley organization which inspires positive change by investing in human services, strengthening self-sufficiency for families, and building the next generation of Latino leaders. Valle del Sol empowers families with the tools, experiences and skills to improve their lives, a cause near and dear to the Murillos.

This glittering exhibition features Chicano pop art by Kathy Cano-Murillo and her husband Patrick Murillo and will close the evening of the auction and starts on August 21 and runs from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Auction starts at 7 p.m.

La Casa Murillo is a life-size creation of the Murillos’ fantasy home transported to the Heard Museum. The Murillos state, “This exhibition is a way to manifest the excitement that we put into visual, cultural pieces that feel like Pop Rocks to your senses.” Now, much of this work is available for purchase during a live auction August 21. Handmade head-boards, artwork influenced by Dia de Los Muertos, paintings, furniture, lanterns and other colorful household décor are just some of the items up for auction.
