Recipes: Cinco de Mayo Cocktails

Tequila and Cinco de Mayo pretty much go hand-in-hand. So whether you’re looking for a sip once you’re been stuffed with tasty tacos at one of these Valley celebrations or are simply staying in for the night, try one of these festive tequila-based cocktails.

Blood Orange Margarita
1½ oz. Tequila Avión
¾ oz. Cointreau Orange Liqueur
1 oz. Blood Orange Juice
½ oz. Fresh Sour Mix
 In a cocktail shaker add all ingredients with ice. Shake and strain; best served over fresh ice and garnish with an orange twist.

Piña Perfection Margarita

1 1/4 ounces Tequila Don Julio Añejo
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
1 ounce fresh pineapple juice
Fresh rosemary
1/4 ounce simple syrup
Sprig of fresh rosemary for garnish
Muddle fresh rosemary into a cocktail shaker. Add Don Julio Añejo, fresh lime juice, fresh pineapple juice, and simple syrup into the cocktail shaker. Shake well and strain into a highball glass. Garnish with sprig of fresh rosemary.

Pomegranate Margarita
1 1/2 ounces Tequila Don Julio Blanco
2 1/2 ounces pomegranate juice
2 teaspoons fine sugar
1/2 ounce lime juice
Sugar (to rim glass)
1 lime wedge
Combine Don Julio Blanco, pomegranate juice, fine sugar and lime juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Rim margarita glass with sugar. Strain ingredients into margarita glass. Garnish with lime.

Spark Passion

1 1/2 ounce Tequila Don Julio Reposado
3/4 ounces lemon juice
1 ounce agave syrup
1/4 ounce cherry liqueur
3/4 ounce pink grapefruit juice
Combine Don Julio Reposado, lemon juice, agave syrup, cherry liqueur and grapefruit juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Pour contents from shaker into rocks glass.
