Who doesn’t want to kick back at the end of a long week and enjoy delish eats and drinks in a cool, casual setting? How about a cool, casual setting that makes you think you escaped to the tropics? Scottsdale’s new Baja Beach Bar (housed in Sandbar’s former residence) offers a coastal escape in the middle of the desert. The laidback eatery offers Southwestern flavors with a cool island kick. The menu features Cowabunga burgers, sandwiches, Big Wave wraps, chicken wings in a variety of seven flavors and more. (Favorites include the Sloppy José with queso and jalapenos, Baja’s Island Burger topped with pepperjack cheese, grilled pineapple and teriyaki mayo and Dos XX-battered cod tacos.)
In addition to the tasty fare, Baja Beach Bar guests get a taste of paradise thanks to the digs, including a sand-lined patio surrounded by grassy-hut outdoor cabanas. During the days, guests are invited to enjoy their cocktails and Cowabunga burger while watching the big game on one of 30 flat-screen TV’s. At night, Baja Beach Bar turns into a spot to see and be seen as a DJ spins and everyone is invited to take the dance floor. Weekly events include cosmic ping pong. One of Baja Beach Bar’s biggest draws are its impressive happy hour specials. All of Baja Beach Bar’s dishes are $5 and many of the cocktails are $6 when happy hour hits. Happy hour at the casual Scottsdale eatery takes places Monday through Friday 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and all day Sunday.
