Remember when NOCA challenged Lolo’s Chicken & Waffles to an epic fried chicken battle several months ago? Though NOCA took home the most votes, it was diners who were the real winners, getting to sample chicken and sides from both A-plus restaurants. Well, this month, NOCA has issued yet another tasty challenge. This time, NOCA has challenged Gilbert’s Joe’s Real BBQ for the best ‘cue in the Valley title. (The challenge was proposed via Twitter.)
On Aug. 15, diners are invited to NOCA to taste the top-notch barbecue and vote for their favorite. Each guest will receive two plates; it will be a blind tasting of brisket, baked beans and onion rings. After, diners will vote for their favorite.
If brisket and beans wasn’t enough, a friendly competition will also take place at dessert time. Tammie Coe of Tammie Coe Cakes in Phoenix will take on the sister duo Jessica Cuff and Jenna Flowers from The Coffee Shop located on Agritopia in Gilbert in a cupcake challenge. Though Coe is a long-time Valley favorite, the sisters recently took home the prize of Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars.”
