Get outta town this weekend for a cooler climate and some kick-butt barbecue. Prescott BBQ Days starts tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. with a dinner dance and silent auction. On Saturday, guests can start sampling the goods at a barbecue cook-off at 10:30 a.m. The cook-off will host chicken, ribs, pork, and brisket categories.
The second annual Prescott BBQ Days takes places at the Prescott Rodeo Grounds. At the event, competitors from all over the west will compete for $7,000 in prize money as well as trophies. Local youth can compete in the Kid’s-Q division and anyone can enter the amateur “Backyard Throwdown”competition for the best-tasting barbecue (burgers, kabobs, chili and chicken categories).
A $5 event entrance fee will include two tastes. (Money raised in this year’s event will benefit many local nonprofit organizations including Yavapai Regional Medical Center’s new Birthing Center, the Highlands Center, 4-H, Prescott Frontier Days and other local charities.) Plus, Prescott BBQ Days participants get to listen to great music, take part in a kids fun zone and other activities. For more information, visit www.prescottbbqdays.com.
