I am such a sucker for anything salty-sweet. Pretzels and Nutella. Chocolate bars with sea salt. (I’ve even been know to put salt on watermelon–a habit that I’m trying to break!) One of my favorite combos, though, is salt and caramel. To my delight, Sprinkles in Scottsdale will debut its limited edition Salty Caramel Cupcakes tomorrow. (The cupcakes are available through May 23.)
The rich buttery cake is topped with caramel frosting that has been dotted with fleur de sel crystals. The crystals have been hand-harvested from France. Fancy, eh? And, of course, the new Sprinkles Salty Caramel Cupcakes are topped with the trademark dot. When we received a preview box of the new cupcakes at our office, everyone was pleasantly surprised by how not-too-sweet this new cupcake was and the salt certainly isn’t overbearing. They have the perfect pinch! 480.970.4321, www.sprinkles.com.

I tried these out and really enjoyed them. Well I always enjoy Sprinkles but these are less sweet so I don’t feel so bad for eating two 🙂
