For the Torres family, Agritopia has long been a place to spend time together. Now, they’re getting the chance to become part of its restaurant community.
Tacos Tijuana is planning to open its newest Valley location at Barnone at Agritopia this October, bringing the family’s longtime street-taco concept to the Gilbert neighborhood where Wendy Torres has lived with her family for the past 11 years.

Wendy now runs the business alongside her husband, Holmes, following in the footsteps of her father, Adolfo Torres, who launched Tacos Tijuana from a food truck in 2016. The original truck, parked near 67th Avenue and Thunderbird, sold out on its first day. The family eventually expanded to brick-and-mortar restaurants in Glendale and Mesa, where Tacos Tijuana has operated for eight years.
Now, the Torres family is bringing the business closer to home. The Barnone menu will keep things focused on the tacos and flavors that helped build the family business, including carne asada and al pastor carved fresh from the trompo. Corn tortillas will be pressed to order, while the family’s signature red salsa – still known as “Salsa Adolfa” after its creator – will make the trip to Gilbert.
Wendy and her family have spent years visiting Agritopia as customers, often biking over with their children, grabbing drinks at Garage East and stopping in at Joe’s Farm Grill. The family had previously considered opening a location at Epicenter several years ago, but the timing didn’t work out. They continued visiting while waiting for the right opportunity, which eventually came in the form of a space at Barnone.
Now, the family business will be just a bike ride away. An exact opening date is still being finalized, but Tacos Tijuana expects to celebrate its October debut with live mariachi music and additional opening-day promotions. Learn more at tacostijuanaaz.com.
