Uber Rolls Out New Green Initiative With Discounted Rides at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport

Uber is unveiling new perks for riders and drivers at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport that place sustainability at the forefront. The new initiative introduces a series of sustainable features within the app, offering riders the ability to make environmentally-friendly ride selections and receive a discount as a result.

One of the changes is the introduction of a “Green Curb” at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Riders who opt for an electric or hybrid vehicle will receive a 40% discount. This designated green curb will include convenient pickup locations with specific signage to ensure easy access and visibility for EV and hybrid car pickup locations.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is a leader in sustainability, and this new partnership is another example of how our airport remains on the cutting edge of every aspect of the passenger experience. I’m proud that Uber has chosen to bring this first-of-its kind initiative to Phoenix, and I look forward to supporting this innovative partnership!”

Phoenix Sky Harbor is the only airport in the country besides Portland International Airport that is rolling out this new green initiative, joining major international airports London Heathrow and Madrid Barajas. While the “Green Curb” will operate differently at each location, its overarching purpose is to encourage sustainability among both drivers and passengers.

During the GO-GET Zero, Uber’s inaugural sustainability product event, the company also revealed other eco-friendly initiatives. These include the introduction of a new peer-to-peer car-sharing option, an in-app search filter for Uber Eats restaurants offering sustainable packaging and updated navigation algorithms designed to minimize environmental impact of drives. In the future, Uber hopes to provide riders with information on the carbon impact of their trips by displaying emissions saved by choosing green ride options.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized the significance of these changes, “Together these small changes add up to something big: building sustainability into the core user experience across our global platform, one ride and delivery at a time.”

The company’s larger goal is to transition into a zero-emission platform by 2030, with Khosrowshahi referring to this as their “north star.” Uber is leading a cultural movement aimed at improving the planet and enhancing the travel experience for passengers worldwide.
