Are you looking to hit the slopes without the hassle of an out-of-state ski trip this season? Arizona may be known for its desert climate, but during the winter months, it’s home to several ski destinations where skiers, snowboarders and sledders can make their way down powdered mountains and enjoy all the amenities of a ski vacation. Here’s where to ski in Arizona for the 2024 ski season. 

Arizona Snowbowl | Flagstaff

Arizona Snowbowl

Arizona Snowbowl is one of Arizona’s two ski resorts and is currently open for the 2023–24 ski season. Located north of Flagstaff on the western slope of Mount Humphreys, the tallest point in the state and the most recognizable point on the San Francisco Peaks, Arizona Snowbowl offers 777 acres of skiable terrain for professionals and beginners. This season, 33 of the resort’s 55 runs and seven of the eight ski lifts are currently open and there is a 31-inch base of snow with more snow expected, according to the website. Skiers also have access to lessons, gear rentals and a range of season passes. 

Arizona Snowbowl is now open daily from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. for skiing and riding. Lift tickets range in price and must be purchased online in advance here. Kids ski free. Sunrise Park Resort | Greer

Sunrise Park Resort

Sunrise Park Resort is the second of Arizona’s two ski resorts and is home to the most ski runs and acreage in the state. At this point in the 2023/24 ski season, skiers have access to 31 of the 67 trails and four of the eight ski lifts. The latest update on the Sunrise Park Resort website reports that Sunrise and Apache Peak are both open and have received over two feet of snow in the past week. Sunrise Park Resort also offers lessons and rentals for all ages, day and season passes and a host of winter activities like snow tubing, ski bikes and more. 

Winter skiing at Sunrise Park Resort is available daily from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. The resort will also be open for night skiing the weekend of Jan. 13–14 from 4:30 p.m.–8 p.m. Full-day and half-day weekday and weekend passes are available to purchase online in advance here. Mount Lemmon Ski Valley | Southern Ariz.

Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley

Ski Valley is the southernmost ski destination in the continental United States. Located north of Tucson on the slopes of Mount Lemmon in the Santa Catalina Mountains, Ski Valley offers 200 skiable acres with 21 runs and a top elevation of 9,157 feet. While Ski Valley is still waiting for enough snow to open up the slopes for the 2023–24 ski season, the destination has other attractions that are open year-round, including a scenic sky ride, gift and fudge shop, dining and more. When the slopes do open, Sky Valley offers full-day and half-day passes, rentals and lessons sold in person.
