Phoenix Sky Harbor Earns 2025 Airports Going Green Award

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has been recognized on a national stage for its growing commitment to environmental stewardship. The airport was selected by The Airports Going Green Awards℠ Judging Committee as a recipient of the 2025 Airports Going Green Award℠ for its PHX Green Business Partner Program, an honor granted in the Outstanding Sustainability Program category.

The award highlights the airport’s innovation and leadership in aviation sustainability and acknowledges its expanding work to reduce its overall environmental footprint.

The voluntary PHX Green Business Partner Program launched in 2024 and was designed to encourage, support, and recognize a wide range of airport business partners – from airlines and rental car companies to restaurants, retailers, and service providers – in adopting more sustainable practices. Those who participate are invited to follow established best practices that advance sustainability outcomes.

In return, they receive recognition at tiered levels along with promotional materials they can display on-site and online. The program’s mission is rooted in the idea that sustainability goals are most powerful when shared across the entire Phoenix Sky Harbor ecosystem.

Since its launch, interest in the initiative has grown steadily. Sixty business locations are now enrolled in the PHX Green Business Partner Program, with more expected to join in the coming year.

Collectively, these efforts have already diverted more than 200 tons of food waste from the landfill, generated nearly $250,000 in utility rebates, strengthened business engagement, and contributed to a reduction in Sky Harbor’s environmental footprint. Airports Going Green® recognized Phoenix Sky Harbor and its fellow award recipients during its celebration conference in Tampa, Florida. For more: skyharbor.com.
