Roosevelt Row Arts District to Get New Upscale Hotel

Set to open in late 2019, the Cambria will be a new upscale hotel in the heart of the historic Evans Churchill Neighborhood of the Roosevelt Row Arts District. The project is a joint effort from Phoenix-based True North Studio, LLC and Choice Hotels International, Inc., with management led by award-winning Oxford Hotels & Resorts.

The seven-story hotel, which has already started construction, will feature 127 rooms, a rooftop pool with cabanas and bar and panoramic views of the mountain ranges, downtown skyline and music festivals at Margaret T. Hance Park. Keeping true to the creative hub of the RoRo District, True North Studio is working with Artlink Inc. to commission local, national and international artists to create exterior murals and an exterior sculptural shade structure for outside the hotel’s entrance. Upon entrance, guests will be welcomed by a lounge area ideal for working and relaxing, as well as a cafe, restaurant and more. The hotel’s amenities will be open to hotel guests and locals.

“As one of the largest and fastest-growing cities in the country, anchored by rising tourism, a rich corporate presence, and thriving arts scene, Phoenix is the perfect destination to welcome several Cambria hotels,” said Janis Cannon, senior vice president, upscale brands, Choice Hotels. “Cambria hotels are designed to reflect the neighborhoods in which they are located and the Roosevelt Row location is no exception—guests can expect it to capture the spirit of the community and inspire them to explore, engage, and discover all Phoenix has to offer.”

The Cambria will be located at 222 E. Portland St., just south of the I-10 freeway ramp and will be within walking distance to the light rail, Phoenix Biomedical Campus, music venues, restaurants, galleries, museums, and shopping
