Pantone Announces the 2022 Color of the Year

Global color authority Pantone has announced the 2022 color of the year: Very Peri.

Featuring a dynamic periwinkle blue with violet-red undertones, Very Peri (PANTONE 17-3938) also marks the first time that Pantone has created a new shade for its annual color selection.

Citing the blur between the physical and digital worlds via online gaming trends and the new metaverse, Very Peri is meant to be “a symbol of the global zeitgeist of the moment and the transition we are going through … as we emerge from an intense period of isolation,” according to Pantone.

“As we move into a world of unprecedented change, the selection of PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue color family. Encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time possessing a violet-red undertone, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression.”
