Trend – Plum Makeup

Certainly this past Halloween there were a fair share of Mad Men fans running around dressed to impress in their finest retro garb. Even my husband and I were set to be Don Draper and his new fiance’ until a dreaded back injury sidelined the fun. Never the less, this season I have been having fun dusting off some of my most adored vintage pieces for special occasions. And even better than that this season has brought back some of my favorite blast from the past makeup trends.

Don’t worry I am not talking about that electric green eye shadow that I was addicted to in 1983 rather I am talking about those gorgeous plum shades that looked so amazing in 80’s films like The Hunger, or how about those blackberry lips from the 90’s that made more than a few grunge ensembles look even better.

If you haven’t branched out to try one of the prettiest shades of the season here are a few of the most flattering combinations to try.

nars orgasim blush

To make eyes standout Sue Devitt Eye Intensifier Pencil in Zaire (a shimmering plum) or Ava (a deep amethyst) create a sultry smokey look that works well with the luxe fashion shades of fall. Pair either eye shade with a peachy blush like Nars Orgasm and a sheer nude lip like Sue Devitt’s Trinity Beach gloss.

 Makeup Forever Rouge Intense Lipstick

Or to put the emphasis on juicy ripe lips try Makeup Forever Rouge Intense Lipstick in Satin Blackcurrant or Pearly Plum both create the perfect come hither evening look. And don’t forget as with all dark lips be sure to line and fill in lips with your liner before adding lipstick for the longest lasting coverage. Pair those dark lips with muted eye shadows in neutral brown shades like Makeup Forever Aqua Cream Shadow in Taupe.

Or for the ultimate evening drama go for plum all over by choosing a sheer eye shadow in a rosy plum tone with a hint of shimmer like Benefits Creaseless cream shadow in Get Figgy a frosted heather shade or Flatter me a toasted mauve use a coffee brown or black liner and smudge to soften the line. To add sexiness not goth to the look, top your lipstick with a gorgeous aubergine gloss like Laura Marcier’s Lip Glace’ in Plum Noir and to round out your pretty purple hued face Nars blush in sin is a rosy plum that’s soft and sweet.
