Makeup – Tricks and Treats

Becca Jewel Dust

I can barely believe that Halloween is almost here, somehow this month seems to have passed me by… next will be Thanksgiving and, soon visions of sugar plums will be dancing through my head. Being a makeup artist everyone assumes that “all hallows eve” must be my favorite holiday and that I am creating some fabulous and jaw dropping costume. Really, I hate to disappoint but the day holds no thrill for me other than decorating other people’s faces and encouraging sugary panhandling by the neighborhood kids. In fact, possessing the skills to do ultra realistic cuts, bruises and wounds often backfires as evidenced when my hubby Jason and I did our own take on the Brad Pitt, Ed Norton movie “Fight Club’, we spent most of the evening explaining that we were not actually in an “accident.” In any case, this year I will be planted at Glam Lounge while the staff and I churn out the sexy secretaries, pin up girls, Twilight-esque vampires and anything else that begs for an expert touch or false lashes. Whether you are joining the spooktacular festivities or just heading out for a night on the town in your regular garb, it’s the perfect night to try a few unexpected makeup tricks and treats.

Rococo Nail Polish

Rococo Nail Polish I love these street chic ‘nail apparel” shades especially Molten Lava and Gold Leaf. They’re edgy and cool but still fashionable enough to go with your office attire on Monday. www.spacenk.com

All Nighter Hair Powder
All Nighter Hair Powder

The All Night Hair Powder – This little shaker of hair refresher is similar to other skipped- a -day- of- washing your locks hair powders you’ve tried but, it’s completely organic and comes in an array of shades to blend with your own tendrils. The best part is that it adds volume without looking streaky and obvious so it works perfectly whether you are going for a bohemian tossle or Mad Men updo’s www.theall-nighter.com

Urban Decay Smoke Out Kit

Urban Decay Smoke Out Kit – This compact holds four stacked layers with everything you needs to create smoldering eyes, including an instruction sheet, four shadows, pencil and mini mascara. I love the Yerba kit of deep greens just for a change of pace, but there’s a brown and black version as well. www.urbandecay.com

Becca Jewel Dusts – Last but not least, if smokey eyes aren’t your thing try these mineral shimmers to give your eyes that extra sparkle. Available in a variety of shades, they get even more intensified when applied with a damp brush and they’ll stay on until the last cocktail. www.beccacosmetics.com
