Phoenix Frozen Yogurt

I recently received a hot tip–or a cold tip, rather–from a frozen yogurt lovin’ colleague regarding Yogurt Builderz. This self-serve frozen yogurt shop in Scottsdale allows you to pick a cup, fill it with whatever flavor frozen yogurt you’d like from the several choices available and crown it with your favorite toppings. Yogurt Builderz charges by the ounce, so pile as many or as little toppings and frozen yogurt in the cup as you’d like. I can’t wait to give it a try! Check it out at 14202 N. Scottsdale Rd., Ste. 167, Scottsdale. 480.607.5146, www.yogurtbuilders.com.

It seems like the self-serve frozen yogurt concept is quite popular at the moment. Scottsdale’s new Yogurtology, near Thompson Peak Parkway and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard, and MoJo Yogurt at CityNorth and Tempe Marketplace (there should be one opening at Biltmore Fashion Park this year as well) also allow customers to dish up their own frosty treats. I’m certainly loving this self-self concept–it’s takes the embarrassment out of asking yogurt servers to add some extra chocolate chips or Cap’n Crunch to your cup of vanilla. 480.451.6900, www.artofyogurtology.com; www.mojoyogurt.com.

Speaking of frozen goodness, Aunt Lena’s Creamery in Chandler has apparently closed. This gelato-serving spot was recently featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.” Sad news.

  1. Yogurt Builders sounds tasty! You know another one I really love is Ice Tango. And they also make these most delicious crepes. Yum!

  2. Ah, throw in a little Reese Peanut Butter Cup chunks, or better yet Oreo and Butterfinger bits together, and you’ve got something!
Of course the candy totally negates the health aspect of the yogurt, but it’s oh so good . . . . .

  3. An avid baker, I am not a frequent visitor of ice cream shops. For some reason that never really satisfied me. I have to say I am giddy over the Valley’s newest hidden treasure. Finally a sweet way to cool down during those hot desert nights.

  4. omg I LOVE Yogurt Builderz! Such a great concept! It is so close to my house it is dangerous! lol. The staff is super friendly too!

  5. i love the charge by the ounce thing – means i can go get a little snack or a huge dessert, and just pay for what i want. i will try this one out for sure.

  6. OMG – – YOGURTOLOGY IS DABOMB.COM!! this just opened recently, and i am obsessed. last night was vanilla yogurt with mangoes, dark chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, animal cookies, yogurt covered raisins, caramel syrup… um, that is all i can remember….. DON’T JUDGE ME

  7. Haha Dillon, you mean something to make up for “all you can eat buffet” for those of us who can’t eat like a horse whether we pay for it or not.

  8. Yogurt Biulderz…hands down…the best!!! Easy access, lots of parking!! amazing, friendly , employees, always great and many flavors to pick from! And always sooo clean!!!

  9. We love Yogurt Builderz! It is sooo good! We are always finding reasons to go get more! I love the tart — it is the BEST!!! YUM!

  10. Yogurt Builderz is the best. I can’t even count how many times I’ve been there. Lots of great flavors.
My favorites are maple walnut and oatmeal cake. The hot fudge just tops it off. I have tried Yogurtology
    and It has no taste.
