Foodie news roundup for the week of Nov. 14.
The Thumb, formerly known as Tom’s Thumb Fresh Market, plans a “TANKED” viewing party for Friday, Nov. 18. Animal Planet will feature The Thumb in this Friday’s airing of “TANKED.” (The Thumb will be the first ever Arizona business to be featured on “TANKED.”) The Thumb contracted ATM (Acrylic Tanked Manufacturing) from Las Vegas to design, create and install a 720-gallon salt water aquarium with a desert theme, focusing on the Tom’s Thumb Trailhead. The tank The massive tank is from floor to ceiling, matches current décor featuring vintage and all types of license plates from all over Arizona. The Devour Culinary Classic (pictured), formerly known as the Devoured Culinary Classic, will be held February 26 through March 5 with a series of events celebrating Arizona’s unique culinary talents. The main event, the Devour Culinary Classic, will be held on Saturday, March 4, and Sunday, March 5, at Phoenix Art Museum, where the Dorrance Sculpture Garden hosts tastings of food, wine, beer, and cocktails, as well as cooking demonstrations and interactive stations. Tickets for the eighth annual Devour Culinary Classic will go on sale in limited release on Monday, Nov. 21, and to the public on Cyber Monday, Nov. 28. Tickets will be available for purchase at devourphoenix.com/classic/. Tickets for the 2016 Devour Culinary Classic are available in several package options.
The Arizona Craft Brewers Guild’s Brewers Ball is a celebration of the state’s signature craft brews, and attendees at this one-night-only event will get to sample some of Arizona’s best home-grown beers alongside top tastes from the Arizona Biltmore. The event takes place 6:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 in the Biltmore’s iconic Gold Room. The Great Gatsby-themed Brewers Ball promises well-dressed guests, art deco décor, culinary stations and, of course, Arizona craft beer.  Tickets are available now in limited quantity at Eventbrite.com.
Salty Sow in Phoenix and Roaring Fork in Scottsdale is now offering a specialty $10 bounce back card for any $50 gift card purchase or a $20 bounce back card for any $100 gift card purchase. Gift cards will be available for purchase onsite until Dec. 31.
