Kids Bedtime – My Bedtime: Spend time with my beautiful wife Jaci Hodge

I was born…

in Scottsdale, AZ… My wife, my 2 kids and I were all born at the same hospital Scottsdale Osborn now called Honor Health.

My favorite thing about Arizona…

running a moving, storage and logistics company it helps that I was born and raised in this beautiful state. Both my wife and I are natives and while I grew up in Scottsdale, AZ, Jaci Hodge grew up in Ahwatukee Foothills area where she attended Desert Vista High. I love that I can spend time in my pool with my kids around 300 days per year, the sunsets, going to see a movie at an ice-cold movie theatre on a hot day. Also, being able to drive on a grid system.

I’m listening to…

Howard Stern, NPR, sports talk radio during football season.

My family…

is what I live and work for. To now have 2 kids that are healthy and strong it makes me feel great inside. In the 6+ years these little kiddos have been around we have had to make a combined 3 visits to the emergency room (not including births). My daughter (Hayden) had pneumonia in 2012 and had to be hospitalized for nearly 3 days. This was a moment in time that I will never forget and made me truly value the hard work and attention to detail that the staff at Banner Thunderbird Hospital provided. Hayden broke her arm, my son (Hudson) had to have stitches… The list goes on and on. I guess what I am trying to say is being a Dad and a Husband is the most fulfilling thing I could ever accomplish as a man. I love my family!

If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be…

Arnold Schwarzenegger. I always admired him because of his ability to command an action sequence and blow up the entire area that surrounded him. As I have gotten older and hopefully slightly more mature, I have listened to his quotes and his words are some of the most motivating pieces of advice you could ever heed. Plus- I have always wanted to do my impression of him to his face!

One thing I cannot live without…

competition. Whether it’s basketball, ping-pong, pottery making, potato sack racing, swimming, joke telling, drawing I love to be competitive and enjoy some competitive trash talking at the same time. I feel like I never may grow up.

When I was younger, I wanted to be…

on ESPN as a Sports Anchor. I attended Arizona State University and graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, PR, and Broadcasting. Talking on camera about sports and other topics always intrigued me… I think this is probably why I enjoy doing all of our company’s marketing and in person meetings with the great partners we have that refer us.

I’m inspired by…

people that take risks and never settle for the safe move. Those who put their livelihood on the line to advance their position on this planet and leave it in a better place than when they found it.

The one person who motivates me is…

my business partner and co-owner of MMM. I think a partnership requires hard work and dedication and you have that constant feeling of wanting to one up the other person. I have no doubt that we have gotten where we are as a business because of that constant completive spirit to be better every day.

If I could change anything in the world, it would be…

the continuously eroding competitive nature of our great country, the thin skin that we have all developed and the inability of people to tell someone if they did not do a good job. If we focused on being perfect in all tasks we set out to complete we will never be satisfied with good enough.

The perfect day would be…

an early gym visit before sunrise. Breakfast as sun came up outdoors with my wife. Boarding a plane with family and friends to fly to a far away land with a massive waterfall. Jumping in that waterfall. Scuba diving, and hitting a beach the rest of the day until sunset where we would attend a luau filled with fire and performers while having a drink. Finally, sleeping on a hammock and doing it again the next day.

My first job was…

working as a Life Guard at Big Surf Waterpark in Tempe, AZ. I vividly remember being trained in life saving techniques and completing an efficiency test to make sure I could swim and tread water. This became a necessity mid summer when monitoring the wave pool alongside my fellow guards, we noticed the wave pool water pump was stuck on and began pulling swimming children to the back of the pool into the giant pump. We jumped in and began pulling struggling people to safety for around 60 seconds until the problem with the pump had been corrected. I can also remember a kid smacking his head on the concrete outside a slide and a large stream of blood pouring from his head. I picked him up and carried him the Lifeguard tower where they were able to stitch him up.

My favorite escape…

watching great films. I recently saw the amazing, “Whiplash” for the first time. I was blown away at the pace and attention to detail that the director and actors were able to achieve. The character arc was incredible taking you through the highs and lows of a music schools student struggles with achieving his own lofty goals the psychotic perfection-drunk professor that he ended up bonding with in the end. I love movies.

My life…

is good. I am never satisfied but feel good about what I have been able to accomplish in terms of family and business so far. I know I have a long way to go.

I’m currently working on…

a partnership with Phoenix Children’s Hospital. We have a goal of raising $5,000.00 to donate to PCH in December of 2015. Our staff and great customers have been making $10 contributions and in return we enter them into a drawing to win Arizona Coyotes hockey tickets, VISA gift cards and more. I feel especially close to this promotion in the fact that I have 2 children of my own. I have been in and out of hospitals with them and I am proud to be able to contribute to the expansion and development of the greatest pediatric hospital in the state of Arizona and maybe the country.

Always…

provide great service and do what you said you would.

Never…

feel like someone owes you something.

Favorite Quote…

“The mind is the limit. As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something, you can do it, as long as you really believe 100%.” Arnold Schwarzenegger

Biggest Dream…

getting my pilots license, growing Muscular Moving Men, helping my children to grown up and be kind, smart, competitive and smart people and being a great husband.

My Pet Peeve(s)…

bad grammar.
