Sexy Summer Nail Polishes

As a pre-teen one of my favorite summer activities was scanning the drug store aisles for the latest shades of polish. Back then there was a makeup wearing age and it certainly didn’t start before the age of 12 and even then it was blush and gloss only….not the spidery eyed mascara and liner wearing that I see from tweens nowadays…. I still blame this on Hillary Duff. She was one of the first youngster celebs to wear a full on smokey eye. And don’t get me started on how awful I think it is that young girls are wearing caked on eye makeup before they are taught how to cleanser properly… hello eye infections! But I digress…. back to 1978 when choosing a cool polish was the one form of self expression through cosmetics that I was happily allowed. Not to be cliché’ but it seems that everything old is new again as this season all of those shades that topped my list of favorites are topping the list again. Here are a few that I love for Spring/Summer

Amercian Apparel recently released their new summer line of shades and I couldn’t be more over the moon for them. From Malibu Green, L”Espirit, Summer Peach, California Tropper to Butter these pastel hues remind me of a California summer in High School when life was carefree and all you had to think about was what swimsuit to wear that day. At only $6 a pop or $15 a 3- pack you can afford them all. You can find them in-store or online.

But not to be outdone is the perfection of all summer colors – a fresh coat of white. I distinctly remember when the first white colors hit the scene in the late 70’s, I think my friends and I bought every brand their was… of course the cheapest one looked the best and the most like white-out but more chic of course. M.A.C. Liberty Of London Nail Polish in Vestral White is divine!

I fully admit to my obsession with Rescue Beauty Lounge. The brand we sold exclusively at Glam Lounge, the formulas are amazing and the shades are just ever so off the rest of the pack (in a grand way) that I never want to go back to the doldrums of cheaper brands…. Not to mention these guys were one of the first to go 3-free, meaning they took out the icky stuff that other brands use. I adore the shade Diddy Mow (the surf term for a big wipeout) it’s a sand- meets- seawater- mix that works perfectly with a tan and some killer sandals…trust me!

Though I rarely tend to go beyond the basics of uber dark vampy or pale and pretty OPI Pamplona Purple is a brilliant shade that makes we want to put on some skyscraper stilletto’s and flash some toe cleavage. It’s a great plum that will go with so many shades of summer.

And lastly, Chanel Cruise 2010-2011 made it’s runway debut earlier this week with the models flaunting a lovely shade of yet unnamed baby blue. If we learned anything from previous collections…stay tuned for this shade to be a limited edition coming soon!
