These are the Most Popular Dog Names in Arizona

Camp Bow Wow has unveiled this year’s most popular dog names across the U.S., just in time for National Puppy Day on March 23.

This year’s list, based on an impressive database of over 300,000 four-legged doggy-day-care campers, offers a fascinating glimpse into the preferences of pet parents across the U.S. and within Arizona. With timeless favorites, like the name Charlie, to newly trending pet names, your puppy might share the next up-and-coming name.

For the third year running, Luna claims the crown as America’s favorite dog name as well as Arizona’s most popular dog name this year. This adorable, celestial-inspired name also leads in 27 states, showcasing its widespread appeal from coast to coast. The affinity for Luna spans a range of breeds, including Labrador Retrievers, Goldendoodles, German Shepherds and many more.

Following Luna, the list includes a mix of classic and contemporary names: Charlie, Bella, Lucy, Cooper, Daisy, Max, Milo, Bailey, and Sadie complete the nation’s top 10 most popular dog names. Notably, Charlie, Lucy, Cooper, and Milo have climbed the ranks since last year, while Bella and Bailey have each slipped a spot. Arizona’s top-dog list shares a similar ranking, with Charlie in second place, followed by Daisy, Bella and Cooper.

Pop culture leaves a lasting “paw-print” on our furry best friends as TV shows and movies continue to inspire new pet names. The names Maverick and Goose, for example, soared in popularity, likely nodding to the “Top Gun: Maverick” blockbuster hit. Similarly, the name Poppy has bloomed, possibly thanks to Anna Kendrick’s vibrant character in “Trolls Band Together.”

Looking ahead, Camp Bow Wow’s Animal Health and  Behavioral Expert Erin Askeland forecasts a continued affection for classic names and others inspired by the natural world, pop culture and culinary delights.

“[We] anticipate an influx of names like Loki, Greta, Rocket and Barbie, inspired by music, TV, movies and celebrities. Luna will continue to be a popular choice as name inspiration from the natural world continues, from planet names to ocean creatures. Additional trending names in that category include Bear and Willow,” says Askeland.

Choosing the perfect name is just the beginning of the journey for pet parents. Whether you stick to the classics or create a unique title, like Camp Bow Wow’s “Maxilicious BerryCrunch Master Cylinder III,” you and your furry friend are sure to build a bond that outlasts tennis balls and bone chews.
