This November, Sedona’s artistic spirit comes alive once more as Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village and Renee Taylor Gallery host “The Legacy: The Waddell Sculpture Walk – Walk Into Beauty”, a weekend celebration honoring two of Sedona’s most influential creative visionaries. Taking place November 7-8, 2025, the event invites guests to immerse themselves in art, dance, film, music, and conversation beneath the sycamores and red rock vistas that have long inspired generations of artists.

The story begins in 1971, when two men – Abe Miller and John Henry Waddell – each laid the foundations for Sedona’s arts community. Miller, driven by his love for Mexican architecture and culture, envisioned and built Tlaquepaque, a village that would become a sanctuary for artists and artisans.
Meanwhile, Waddell, a renowned bronze sculptor, established a towering studio along Spring Creek, where he taught and inspired students from around the world. Their paths first crossed when Waddell became one of the first artists to showcase his work at the newly opened Tlaquepaque gallery.

More than 50 years later, Waddell’s timeless sculptures have returned to that same setting, now displayed at Renee Taylor Gallery’s Vue Gallery and throughout the courtyards of Tlaquepaque. His expressive bronze figures once again “dance beneath the sycamores,” continuing a legacy of creativity, community, and beauty that began half a century ago.

During the two-day celebration, visitors will experience the Sedona Dance Project’s evocative performance, The Beauty of Individual Differences, a choreographed homage to Waddell’s philosophy and artistic vision. Dancers will lead guests through Tlaquepaque’s flower-lined walkways, fountains, and archways, where movement and sculpture merge in a living tribute to the artist’s enduring influence.

“The Legacy” is more than an art event; it’s a reflection on Sedona’s cultural heartbeat and the connection between past and present. Hosted at Renee Taylor Gallery, (336 State Route 179, Suite B124) this immersive experience captures the spirit of Sedona’s creative community and invites all who attend to walk into beauty.
