Top Broadway Productions Come to Phoenix

Without a doubt, ASU Gammage is one of Tempe’s most prized possessions and has staged many celebrity artists and renowned Broadway productions. Located on the Tempe campus of Arizona State University, ASU Gammage is among the largest university-based presenters of performing arts in the world. It’s the home theater of M&I Bank Broadway Across America – Arizona and the ASU Gammage Beyond series and strives to connect communities through artistic excellence and educational outreach. It’s architecture, designed by internationally renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, has given the theatre a historic decadence and much Valley celebration.

Now let’s add a little drama. Starting in September and running through the end of the year, ASU Gammage is jam-packed with not-to-miss productions for your viewing pleasure. Most tickets go on sale next month so order your tickets before they sell out!

Our favorite blonde law student is back and her story has become a musical sensation in Broadway. Legally Blonde – The Musical, which Time Magazine calls “an Elle of a show,” heads to Tempe’s ASU Gammage this September. Come see blonde bombshell Elle Woods fight to win her ex-boyfriend back and take on Harvard Law. Where along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style. As funny as it was on the big screen, imagine the production with a little song and dance.

Phantom of the Opera
Oct. 28 – Nov. 22 (Tickets on Aug. 24)
Take in the “Music of the Night” with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s international award-winning phenomenon directed by Harold Prince – The Phantom of the Opera. This musical marvel is such a classic that it has now become the longest running Broadway show in history. Although you may have the CDs or even seen the movie released in 2004, experiencing the Phantom of the Opera in its original form is a must-do. Your chance awaits as the production comes to ASU Gammage at the end of October. So come see the story of seduction and despair, and the one show The London Sunday Times called “God’s gift to the musical theatre.”

Little House on the Prairie
Dec. 8-13
We can all remember the touching books and T.V. series – The Little House on the Prairie. Travel back in time and remenisce this Winter season when the shows/books becomes a live musical production at ASU Gammage. Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura for 10 years in the much loved television series, continues her legacy by starring as Ma. Families will continue to fall in love with these life affirming stories about the Ingalls’ struggles and triumphs through the celebration of the pioneering spirit and the core values on which this country was founded – a spirit that resonates within each of us today. The show is directed by Francesca Zambello (Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”), the music has been created by Academy Award winner, Rachel Portman, and the book was written by Rachel Sheinkin (Tony Award for Spelling Bee) with lyrics by Donna di Novelli.
